Well, I’m finally (like, finally!) at the point I’m going to start posting chapters, notes, and excerpts, and while I’m at it, I may as well put up the first one!

NOTE: Some of the chapters/notes/excerpts I post will not be final, and will pretty much all be changed, removed, or rewritten, or others added.

Here is my 2nd draft of the intro, or prologue, whatever you want to call it. Enjoy :D.

STIKKY awoke with a start. Something was wrong.

Kicking the bed-covers off his stickfigure body, he climbed out of bed and looked around him. Everything was quiet. A weird, eerie, quiet.

As he descended down the staircase into the lower room of his private laboratory, he listened to the sound of his own footsteps on the metal stairs; the only noise he could hear.

Something was definitely wrong.

Grabbing his metal training sword from its place on the wall, he strapped it to his belt as he opened the door and stepped into the sunshine outside.

His laboratory was built at the top of a hill, overlooking a narrow valley. On the other side of the hill was his home town, Stickville.

As Stikky stepped out onto the hilltop, the faint noises that came from the village reached his ears.

He breathed a sigh of relief. At least nothing was wrong in his village.

Turning around, he looked up, past the valley, at the large mountain that stretched up into the sky above him.

This mountain was the only mountain in sightーmaybe even on the islandーwhich made it look a little out of place. Stikky didn’t really know its name, or even if it had a name; he and his friends just called it Mount Stick.

After journeying to the very top of Mount Stick, they had discovered that it was not a mountain at all, but a dormant volcano.

As he stared at Mount Stick, he felt the ground begin to vibrate under his feet.

At first Stikky didn’t notice the vibrations. He was too busy staring at the large clouds of billowing smoke that were appearing out the top of Mount Stick.

For a few seconds he looked at it in confusion. It hadn’t been there before, he was sure of that. And then suddenly, a bright spot of orange appeared besides the smoke, slowly but steadily coming down the volcano towards him.

Another tremor shook the hill, and Stikky nearly lost his footing. What is happening? He thought to himself, but deep inside, he already knew.

Glancing back up once more at the stream of boiling lava that was slowly descending down the mountainside towards him and his village, he turned and sprinted down the hill towards Stickville.
